Through my professional training and private practice, I have developed a specialist interest in working therapeutically with people who have experienced physical trauma or ongoing physical health conditions.
Psychological trauma is defined by van der Kolk and Fisler (1995) as “an inescapably stressful event that overwhelms people’s existing coping mechanisms”. Traumatic events can have wide ranging impacts on a person’s mood, psychological well-being and daily functioning. Understanding the relationship between a traumatic event and the subsequent impacts is key to ensuring the person receives the correct support. I use comprehensive assessments, delivered with compassion and empathy, to produce detailed high quality reports on the psychological impacts of the traumatic event, and to ensure the appropriate evidence-based interventions and recommendations are tailored to the specific circumstances and needs of each person.
The assessments I complete include:
- Comprehensive clinical history and presenting situation
- Comprehensive Psychological Assessments
- Mental health conditions (e.g., anxiety, depression etc.)
- PTSD assessments
- Cognitive functioning and other neuropsychological
- Mental Capacity Act assessments undertaken in line with the core principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, in that capacity is time and decision specific
